About Phang-nga

Formerly named Muang Phu Nga after the name of Nga hill or phangnga hill located
in the present town, the province was in the reign of King Rama ll of Bangkok affiliated to Muang Nakorn Sri Thammarat.
The word Phu in Thai terminology means a hill or a mountain. Perhaps, the name Muang Phu nga was expected to correspond with Muang Phuket, its neighbouring town.
Later during the the tin mining boom, foreigners who entered the town for their tin business purpose wrote the town’s name as Phunga or Punga which could be pronounced as either phu-nga, phang-nga or phang-ga.
As a coastal province, Phangnga with an area of 4,170,885 sq.kms or about 2.6 million ari is located close to the AndamanSea and approximately 788 kms awar from Bangkok.

Toproaraphy
Apart from mountainous forests on mainland, the Province of phangnga bord
ered by the 240 km coastall line in the west and mountain ranges in the
east comprises over 105 islands located in the the Andaman Sea .
The most renowned island include Similan islands, Surin island snd Kohyao.
Climate , Influenced by the southwestern and northeastern monsoons ,
the province has two seasons: the summer starting from January to
April and the rainy season from May to December. Average temperature
ranges from 29-34 degree Celsius.

Bondary
North borders on Ranong.
East borders on Suratthani and Krabi
West boders on the Andaman Sea
South borders on Phuket at the strait of Pak Phra linked by the Sarasin and Thap Kasattri Bridges.


Administration
Phang Nga is Administratively divided into 8 districts (Amphur) : Amphur Muang, Amphur Kuraburi, Amphur thap Put, Amphur Kapong, Amphur Takua Thung, Amphur Takua pa, Amphur Tai Muang and Amphur koh Yao; 48 sub-districts (tambol); 320 villages; 2 Muang municipalities; 7 Tambol municipalities; one provincial administration authurity and 46 Tambol administration authorities. A major income source of popuiation is agriculture. Economic crops include para rubber, oil palm, rambtan and others
